Final touches to our community garden

Garden crew at work in our community space

Here's our community garden team again. On a warm, sunny Tuesday in early July we planted the veggies we'd grown from seed in our Zoom classes, led by gardener John (right of pic) - salads, cucumbers, tomatoes and spinach.

The previous week we had prepared the beds, using materials donated by Brian of DCC and Central Office funding.  Lots of rich farmyard manure which the soil badly needed.  DCC donated bedding plants for colour and to keep the bees happy. We  also planted the flowers out this week.  Derek and fellow DCC staff at St. Laurence O'Toole Recreation and Sports Centre made us very welcome - thank you!  It was a fab morning in a special space.  Thanks to everyone's efforts, the gardens looked great after all our work.

A week later, true to their word, the crew from North Wall Mens' Shed came to paint the planting frames.  Here they are, John on the left, and gaffer Noel on the right!

The  Mens' Shed crew are coming back to strengthen the frames soon and do more maintenance.

Meanwhile, our garden club ladies are tending the garden on Wednesday mornings in July. Sun + rain = strong plants and lots of weeds! Here's Margaret and Lily at work:
