***************

In summer 2021, North Wall CDP took on four Community Employment (CE) sub-sponsoring groups. This means we have an administrative and guidance role over their CE employees.  The four groups are: Friends of the Elderly, the Institute of International European Affairs, Cairde and The Outhouse.  All are based within Dublin 1.  Positions included across all our locations include:

·         Childcare

·         Administration

·         Social activities worker for seniors

·         Canteen/Kitchen hand

·         Housekeeping

·         Caretaker

·         Cleaner

·         Clerical Support

·         Community Development

See News section for more information.

At North Wall CDP, our own CE workers play very important roles.  We offer positions in childcare, canteen work, community development, administration and maintenance. Currently, you are also entitled to work up to 20 hours a week in another organization.

What is a Community Employment (CE) Scheme?

If you are long-term unemployed, CE schemes can be a great pathway back to work. If your CE application is approved, you will get a part-time, temporary placement with us (19.5 hours per week) for a minimum of one year.  You will gain practical experience, QQI-accredited training and in-house training during this time. Your contract may be renewed, depending on your circumstances and guidelines set down by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP).

You must be in receipt of a payment from the DEASP for at least 12 months and be over the age of 21 to be eligible for CE.  In the North East Inner City (NEIC) area, relaxed rules apply at present.

You will be paid €22.50 per week in addition to your social welfare payment.

How long can I participate on a CE scheme?

There are maximum time limits (depending on how long you have been in receipt of a qualifying payment) for CE participation:

  • 3 years for people aged under 55
  • 6 years for people aged over 55

How many hours will I work?

The average number of working hours for placements is 39 hours per fortnight. You will be paid weekly by North Wall CDP as your sponsor and have certain statutory employment rights, including; annual leave, public holidays, maternity leave and a written statement of your terms and conditions of employment. Tax may be deducted from your pay, if applicable. However, your CE pay is exempt from the Universal Social Charge.
