NWCDP's Gardening and Knitting clubs go digital!

‘Go Digital!’, our new outreach project, is up and running.  Thanks to the Community Foundation for Ireland we’ve bought seven Acorn tablets to bring our gardening and knitting club members together online.  This is a trial project.  Our community friends will learn new digital skills as they use the tablets for weekly gardening workshops, yoga and dance classes and a ‘Knit & Sew’ group where they can swap stories as they work. All using Zoom.

NWCDP takes up Jerusalema challenge

In February, when lockdown was getting us down, we did the Jerusalema challenge.  A simple, powerful dance that's great for community spirit. The Jerusalema started in Africa last October. It spread to Europe and around the world - Australia, Asia, the USA. Then to the NEIC this Spring.  Our NWCDP staff learned their steps and did their bit.

Watch out for the Little Treasures’ staff in purple uniforms, Luke Kelly’s head,  nimble teachers and Josie's Irish dancing steps. Thanks to Sandy Doody for this final edit.

International Women's Day, 2021

International Women’s Day is a landmark event for North Wall CDP. This year we couldn't invite our community friends to the centre for the usual coffee, cake and chat but we still marked it the day. On 8th March at 11am  staff walked our ECCE pre-schoolers safely down to the River Liffey. There they threw flowers into the water to remember and honour women who suffer abuse.  It was a lovely walk on a Spring day.

Welcome Back

Our pre-schoolers have returned to Little Treasures Community Crèche.  In line with Government guidelines, we resumed our  Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme on 8th March.  It was great to see them.  The staff organised a warm welcome with balloons and a little walk down to the Liffey.  In recent weeks we've been caring for children of essential workers. Our childcare service are reopening to all other children on a step-by-step basis, subject to public health advice.

Sheriff Street Clean Up 2020

On Wednesday 9th December we held our Sheriff Street clean up.  Lots of people braved the cold, damp morning including the learners on our Sport & Recreation LTI team.  Thanks lads (including Ger and Amy!).  We also appreciated the help from our staff, community partners, Dublin City Council and Greystar Ireland, who are located nearby.  The Green Ribbon team gave us planting tips and two lovely flower containers.

It was a great morning. We’ll do it again!

Little Treasures Graduation, 2020

On 29 July, Little Treasures held its yearly graduation ceremony.

Because of Covid 19 we couldn’t have our usual celebration. Instead, we did a socially-distanced graduation in our outdoor play area next to the crèche.  Eight of the nine children due to start ‘Big School’ this Autumn came. It was a lovely sunny day and the children enjoyed a McDonalds take-away afterwards. The parents had a great time as well.

All the children received a St. Christopher medal to guide and protect them on their journey ahead.
